Can a weak narration rise to acceptance with corroboration?

Question

In your answers, I have seen you many times, mention a weak narration is raised to level of hasan. I was wondering, is this in accordance to the methodology of earlier Hadith scholars such as from the salaf or a modern day invention?

Answer

This is an established principle from the salaf; the earlier scholars as early as Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) and is well documented by the writers in Hadith terminology.

When a Hadith is reported with a weak chain, but has the support of another suitable chain or other texts on the same topic, it can be rightfully judged as sound (hasan lighayrihi).
