A Hadith from Bayhaqi on the virtues of the fast and salah in Ramadan

Question

I  was told there is a hadith in Bayhaqi which says for doing one sajdah in Ramadan, a person gets one thousand five hundred reward,

I was also told 70 thousand angels pray for a person who fasts in the month Ramadan (every day)

Are these Hadiths authentic?

JazakAllahukhairan.

Answer

Both of the above are from the same Hadith in Shu’abul Iman of Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahullah) Hadith: 3362.
The chain is very weak. Therefore after citing this Hadith, Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahullah) explained that it is supported by other popular narrations.

His words are as follows:

قد روينا في الأحاديث المشهورة ما يدل على هذا أو بعض معناه

‘We have other popular Hadiths that point to this meaning or part of it.’

‘Allamah Mundhiri (rahimahullah) also quoted this Hadith in Targib (vol.2 pg.93-94) & indicated to its weakness.

Other support

1) Hafiz Ibn Rajab (rahimahullah) has quoted the famous Tabi’i, Ibrahim Nakha’i (rahimahullah) to have said:
‘One fast in Ramadan is better than a thousand fasts (outside Ramadan), one tasbih in Ramadan is better than a thousand tasbihs and one rak’at of salah in Ramadan is better than a thousand rak’ats’
(Lataiful Ma’arif, pg.286)

2) Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu’anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said:

‘Indeed Allah sends special mercies, and his Angels pray for those who partake of suhur/sehri.’

(Sahih Ibn Hibban; Al Ihsan, Hadith: 3467)

This Hadith explains that the Angels (without any specific number) make du’a for the fasting person.

It is better to quote this authentic (sahih) Hadith instead.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
