Question

Is this Hadith authentic?

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“A man from among the people of Jannah will request Allah to allow him to cultivate the land. Allah will say to him, ‘Haven’t you got what you desire?’ He will reply, ‘Yes, but I like to cultivate the land. He will sow the seeds, and within seconds the plants will grow and ripen and (the yield) will be harvested and piled in heaps like mountains.”

Answer

Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith in his Sahih. The Hadith is therefore authentic.

The full Hadith is as follows:

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that once Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was speaking and a Bedouin was also presents:

“A man from among the people of Jannah [will] request Allah to allow him to cultivate the land. Allah will say to him, ‘Haven’t you got all that you desire?’ He will reply, ‘Yes, but I like to cultivate the land. [Allah will permit him and] he will sow the seeds and within seconds the plants will grow and ripen and [the yield] will be harvested and piled in heaps like mountains. Allah will say, ‘Here you are, son of Adam! Nothing satisfies you.’ The Bedouin said, ‘By Allah, you will find that he is either from the Quraysh or an Ansari! They are people of agriculture, we are not people of agriculture.’ Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) laughed.'”

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 2348 and 7519)
