Question
Is this Hadith reliable?
Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu) says: “I asked my mother [to describe] Fatimah (radiyallahu ‘anha), the daughter of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). She said: ‘She was like a moon on its full night, or like the sun that parts the clouds and shines forth. She was fair with a touch of rose colour on her face, her hair was black and she resembled Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) more closely than anyone else.’ She then recited some couplets of poetry”
Answer
Imam Hakim (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration. However, ‘Allamah Dhahabi (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith a fabrication. The Hadith is not suitable to quote.
(Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 3 pg. 161)
Note: The last part of the Hadith regarding Sayyidah Fatimah’s (radiyallahu ‘anha) striking resemblance to that of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) has been authentically recorded as the statement of Sayyidah ‘Aaishah (radiyallahu ‘anha). See here.
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
