Question

In Sunan Nasai, there is a chapter ‘As saffu baynal qadamayn‘. There is a narration under this chapter wherein Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said that murawahah is better.

Is the Hadith authentic and what does murawahah mean?

Answer

Imam Nasai and Imam Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah (rahimahumallah) have recorded this narration.

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu ‘anhu) once saw a man offering Salah. He had joined/held his feet together [probably due to fatigue]. Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu ‘anhu) told him, ‘You have opposed/made an error regarding the Sunnah method, it would have been better if you would [keep your feet apart] and lean on one leg at a time [as a means of rest].’

(Sunan Nasai; Al Mujtaba, Hadith: 892-893, Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, Hadith: 7134-7135)

Shaykh Muhammad ‘Awwamah (hafizahullah) has declared the chain sound (hasan).

Murawahah means to lean on one leg at a time.

(Refer: Sharhus Sunnah, under Hadith: 731, Hashiyatus Sindhi ‘Alan Nasai and Footnotes of Shaykh Muhammad ‘Awwamah on Musannaf)

Note: Kindly refer to a Mufti/Darul Ifta for further clarification.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
