I have heard that if a person sleeps according to the sunnah i.e, makes wudu, recites Tasbih Fatimah du’a etc, then he will get reward for doing ‘ibadah for the entire time he remains sleeping, is this correct?
The following two Hadiths support your query:
1. Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu’anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said: “Purify your bodies, Allah will purify you, for verily any person who sleeps in a condition of purity will indeed have an angel spending the night by his side and whenever he turns over at any moment during the night the angel says, ‘O Allah forgive your servant for verily he has spent the night in the state of purity.”
(Al-Mu’jmaul-Awsat of Tabarani).
Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) has classified this Hadith as jayyid (good) and Hafiz Haythami has classified it as hasan (sound).
(Fathul-Bari vol.2 pg.132 and Majma’uz Zawa’id vol.10 pg.128).
2. Sayyiduna ‘Uthman ibn Affan (radiyallahu’anhu) states that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alaihi wasallam) said,: “Whoever performs his ‘Isha Salah in congregation, it is as though he has performed salah for half the night and whoever performs the ‘Isha and Fajr in congregation, it is as though he has performed salah for the entire night.”
(Sahih Muslim vol.1 pg.232 and Sunan Abi Dawud vol.1 pg.82)
