Question
Please mention the incident regarding Sayyiduna Mus’ab ibn Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhu) when he passed away and the kafan was not enough to cover his body.
Answer
Sayyiduna Khabbab ibn Al Aratt (radiyallahu ‘anhu) says, “We migrated with Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) for the sake of Allah and our reward is in the control of Allah. Some of us passed away without benefiting from our reward and one of them was Mus’ab ibn ‘Umayr. Some of us had the fruits [of our efforts] ripen and are plucking it. He [Mus’ab] was martyred on the day of Uhud and we did not find anything to shroud him with except for a cloth. When we covered his head with it, his feet would stick out and when we covered his feet his head would stick out. So Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) commanded us to cover his head and put ‘idhkhir’ [a type of plant/leaf] on his feet”
(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 1276, 3913 and Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 940)
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
