Question

Kindly translate the following Hadith in Sunan Darimi:

Answer

“Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) once delayed the ‘Isha Salah so much so that one third or almost one third of the night had passed. Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) then came and [saw that] some people were asleep, some were sitting separately and some were sitting in groups. He (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) became angry and said, ‘If someone had to invite the people to partake of some meat [on a bone] or the meat found close to the hoof of a sheep or an arrow (referring to something insignificant), they would certainly accept that invitation but they choose to be absent from Salah [in congregation]. I want to command someone to perform the Salah and I go to those houses wherein the [men] are absent from Salah [in congregation] and set the houses alight”

Imam Darimi (rahimahullah) has recorded this exact narration as you have stated. Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim (rahimahumallah) have also recorded parts of this narration with variation in the wordings.
