Question

Please tell me if there is any du’a or supplication from Hadith for protection from riba (usury). Please give the Arabic, transliteration and English translation.

Answer

I have not seen any such specific du’a from Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).

One may use general wordings when asking Allah Ta’ala for protection from such a grave sin.

Like for example:

اَللّهُمَّ اِنِّي اَعُوذُ بِكَ مِن الرِّبَا

Allahumma inni a’udhu bika minar riba

O Allah! I seek your protection from interest/usury.

However, it is important to make a concerted effort to stay away from interest in all its forms.

The warnings in the Quran and Hadith are extremely severe for this sin. Yet the Ummah today spends millions in such transactions, monthly!

This is one [of several] direct causes for such widespread plight and chaos around the globe.

May Allah Ta’ala grant us the true understanding, and protect us all.
