When a person sends salutations upon Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), then an angel takes the salutations to Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and says that so and so, the son of so and so sent salutations to you.

There are numerous authentic narrations which state that our salutations are conveyed to Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). However these narrations do not have the mention of our names being taken.

(See Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 1040. Also see Al Qawlul Badi’ pg. 326)

The following narrations do have mention of our names being taken by Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam):

1) Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, ‘Send abundant salutations upon me, for verily Allah Ta’ala has appointed an angel by my grave. When one of you sends salutations upon me the angel says to me, O Muhammad, So and so the son of so and so has sent salutations upon you now.’

(Daylami with a weak chain; see Al Qawlul Badi’ pg. 328)

2) Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Nabi (Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, ‘….Allah Ta’ala appoints an angel to convey to me the salutations like how one of you receives gifts. The angel informs me of the one who sent salutations upon me by taking his name and his family lineage…’

(Bayhaqi in his Hayatul Ambiya with a weak chain and Ibn Bashkuwal; See Al Qawlul Badi’ pg. 329/330)
