Is this Hadith reliable?
It is narrated that Sayyiduna Mihjan ibnul Adra’ said: I came with Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and when we were at the door of the Masjid, we saw a man offering Salah. He said: ‘Do you think he is sincere?’ I said: ‘O Prophet of Allah, this is So and so, he is one of the best of the people of Madinah, or one of those who offers the most Salah of the people of Madinah.’ He said: “Do not let him hear you [praising him] lest you be destroy him” – two or three times –. He then said, ‘You are an ummah for whom I want ease.’”
Imam Ahmad (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration as part of a longer narration with a suitable chain.
(Musnad Ahmad, vol. 5 pg. 32. Refer: Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 3 pg. 308)
Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) has also recorded this narration with slight variation in the wording. Hafiz Haythami (rahimahullah) has declared the narrators reliable.
(Al Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 707, volume: 20, Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 4 pg. 15)
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
