Answer

I have not come across this narration in any primary Hadith source.

It appears in Al-Ghunyah of Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani (rahimahullah) as part of a longer narration, on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu), without a complete chain of narrators.

(Al-Ghunyah Li Talibi Tariqil Haq, vol. 2, pg. 40-41)

Furthermore, one of the narrators mentioned in the incomplete chain, has been declared extremely weak. Some Muhaddithun have also declared him a fabricator.

(Refer: Lisanul Mizan, vol. 8, pg. 326-327, number: 8242. Also see: Tabyinul ‘Ajab, pg. 25)

The narration should not be quoted.

Translation of the narration:

Sayyiduna ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “When the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah begin, strive in acts of obedience, they are days which Allah Ta‘ala has granted special virtue, and has made the sanctity of their nights like the sanctity of their days.

Whoever performs four rak‘ahs during the last third of the night on any of these ten nights, reciting Surah Fatihah once, the Mu‘awwidhatayn (Falaq and Nas), and Surah Ikhlas three times in each rak‘ah, as well as Ayatul Kursi, repeating this in every rak‘ah, then upon completing the Salah raises his hands and says:

Transliteration: Subhana dhil ‘izzati wal jabarut, subhana dhil qudrati wal malakut, subhanallahil hayyilladhi la yamut, la ilaha illa huwa yuhyi wa yumit, wa huwa hayyun la yamut, subhanallahi Rabbil ‘ibadi wal bilad, wal hamdu lillahi hamdan kathiran tayyiban mubarakan ‘ala kulli hal, Allahu Akbaru kabira, Rabbuna jalla jalaluhu wa qudratuhu bi kulli makan.

Translation: ‘Glory be to the Possessor of might and absolute power. Glory be to the Possessor of power and dominion. Glory be to Allah, the Ever-Living who never ceases to exist. There is non worthy of worship besides him. He gives life and causes death, and He is Ever-Living and never ceases to exist. Glory be to Allah, the Rabb of the servants and the lands. All praise is for Allah, abundant, pure and blessed praise in every circumstance. Allah is the Greatest. Our Rabb, His majesty and power is manifest in every place.’

Thereafter, he may make du’a for whatever he wishes. He will receive a reward equivalent to that of one who performed Hajj, visited the grave of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), and strove in the path of Allah. Allah will grant him everything he asked for.

If he performs this Salah on every night of the ten nights, Allah Ta‘ala will admit him into the highest level of Firdaws, erase every sin from him, and it will be said to him: ‘Begin your deeds afresh.’

Then, on the day of ‘Arafah if he fasts during the day, performs Salah during its night, recites this du’a, and he beseeches Allah Ta‘ala with great humility and earnestness, Allah will say: ‘O My angels, bear witness that I have forgiven him and have included him among the hujjaj.’

The angels will then rejoice at what Allah Ta‘ala grants this servant because of his Salah and du’a.”

And Allah Ta’ala knows best.
