Is this Hadith reliable?

“The Salahs of the day are silent/dumb [meaning one should not recite aloud in them]”

 

Answer

‘Allamah Nawawi (rahimahullah) and other Muhaddithun have declared this Hadith a fabrication. The Muhaddithun have stated that this was the statement of some Fuqaha.

This has also been recorded as the statement of Hasan Al Basri, Abu ‘Ubaydah ibn ‘Abdillah ibn Mas’ud and Mujahid (rahimahumullah).

In Summary, the words in question should not be quoted as a Hadith of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), rather it should be quoted as the statement of some Tabi’un/Fuqaha.

Note:

Although these words are not suitable to quote as a Hadith, the ruling that qira-ah in Salah during the day is recited softly has been established from other Hadiths recorded in Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim.

Imam Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah (rahimahullah) has also recorded [a mursal/mu’dal] narration wherein Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) expressed disapproval at some people who recited aloud in Salah during the day.
