What is the status of the Hadith which states that a believer should not embarrass himself?

Answer

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has graded it as sound (hasan gharib).

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2254).

(٢٢٥٤) – حدثنا محمد بن بشار قال: حدثنا عمرو بن عاصم قال: حدثنا حماد بن سلمة، عن علي بن زيد، عن الحسن، عن جندب، عن حذيفة قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: «لا ينبغي للمؤمن أن يذل نفسه» قالوا: وكيف يذل نفسه؟ قال: «يتعرض من البلاء لما لا يطيق».
هذا حديث حسن غريب.
