What is the definition of an “oppressed person” [in Hadith] and can you give the Arabic word and transliteration please?

Answer

Oppression, when discussed In Hadith refers to something taken unjustly. Therefore the “oppressed person” refers to a person whose rights are disregarded and trampled upon, be it monetary or with regard to his life/family etc.

The Arabic word is مظلوم, mazlum.

فتح الباري:
(٢٤٤٠) – والمظالم جمع مظلمة مصدر ظلم يظلم واسم لما أخذ بغير حق والظلم وضع الشيء في غير موضعه الشرعي.

فيض القدير:
(١١٢) – (إن الله تعالى يلوم على العجز  أي على التقصير والتهاون في الأمور) وهذا قاله لمن ادعى عليه عنده فحسبل  تعريضا بأنه مظلوم أي أنت مقصر بتركك الاحتياط وعدم رعاية ما أقام الله لك من الأسباب وترك التدبير بالإشهاد وإقامة الحجة وغير ذلك مما يوجب الغلبة وثبوت الحق والعجز وإن كان صفة وجودية قائمة بالعاجز لكن العبد ملام عليه لما ذكر.
