Question

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said that mushroom is a good cure for the eyes; it also serves as a form of birth control and arrests paralysis.

Is this sound?

Answer

Mushrooms being a cure for the eyes have been recorded by Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) in his Sahih (Hadith 4487, 4639 and 5708).

However, the type of mushroom referred to in this Hadith should be verified by consulting specialist herbalists.

As for it being a form of birth control and that it arrests paralysis, this is not mentioned in the narration. To the contrary, Hafiz Ibnul-Qayyim (rahimahullah) has mentioned that it actually causes paralysis.
