Kindly provide the reference and authenticity of the following du’a:
اللهمَّ الطُفْ لي في تيسير كلِّ عسيرٍ، فإنَّ تيسيرَ كلِّ عسيرٍ عليك يسيرٌ، وأسألُك اليُسرَ والمعافاةَ في الدنيا والآخرةِ
Allahummaltuf li fi taysiri kulli ‘asir, fa inna taysira kulli ‘asirin ‘alayka yasir, wa asalukal yusra wal mu’afata fid dunya wal akhirah
Answer
Imams ‘Uqayli, Tabarani and Bayhaqi (rahimahumallah) have recorded this narration on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu)
(Kitabud Du’afa of ‘Uqayli, vol. 3, pg. 266-267, Number: 840, Mu’jamul Awsat, Hadith: 1250, and Ad-Da’awatul Kabir, Hadith: 267)
Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahullah) has pointed out a weak narrator in the chain.
(Ad-Da’awatil Kabir, Hadith: 267; Also see Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 9, pg. 70)
‘Allamah Haythami (rahimahullah) has stated that there are narrators in the chain whom he was unaware of (وفيه من لم أعرفهم).
(Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 10, pg. 182)
‘Allamahs Dhahabi, Ibn Hajar, and Munawi (rahimahumullah) have all graded the chain as unreliable (إسناده مظلم).
(Mizanul I’itidal, vol. 2, pg. 406, Number: 4207, Lisanul Mizan, vol. 4, pgs. 515-516, Number: 4305, and Faydul Qadir, Hadith: 1527; Also see: At-Taysir, vol. 1, pg. 221)
Translation
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) is reported to have narrated:
“When Rasulullah (sallalalhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) directed [Sayyiduna] Ja’far ibn Abi Talib [radiyallahu ‘anhu] towards Abyssinia, he saw him off and provided him with the following words [du’a – the meaning of which is as follows]:
O Allah! Be gentle with me by making every difficult thing easy, for indeed it is extremely easy for You to make every difficult thing easy! And I beg You for easiness [in all matters] along with well-being (معافاة) in [both] the worldly life and Hereafter!”
(Refer: Faydul Qadir, Hadith: 1527)
As is evident, the meaning of this du’a is correct.
And Allah Ta’ala knows best.
