Question
Is the following du’a from an authentic Hadith?
Answer
Yes, this is recorded in the following narration reported on the authority of Sayyiduna Samurah ibn Jundub (radiyallahu ‘anhu) who heard this Hadith multiple times from Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhuma):
Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
“Whomsoever recites the following in the morning and evening will be granted whatever he asks of Allah:
Allahumma anta khalaqtani wa anta tahdini wa anta tut’imuni wa anta tasqini wa anta tumituni wa anta tuhyini
(Al Mu’jamul Awsat, Hadith: 1032)
‘Allamah Mundhiri and ‘Allamah Haythami (rahimahumallah) have declared the chain sound (hasan).
