What is the authenticity of the Hadith “A man will not be asked why he beat his wife.”

Did Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) authenticate this?

Answer

Ibn ‘Allan (rahimahullah) has quoted Ibn Hajar Al Haytami (rahimahullah) [demise: 974 A.H.] to have authenticated this Hadith.

I have not come across Hafiz Ibn Hajar’s Al ‘Asqalani (rahimahullah) [demise: 852 A.H.] authentication of this Hadith. See the reference and commentary of this Hadith here.

(٦٨) – (التاسع: عن عمر رضي الله عنه عن النبيّ قال: لا يسأل) بالبناء للمجهول (الرجل فيم) بحذف ألف ما الاستفهامية لجرها بفي، أي: بأيّ سبب (ضرب امرأته) لاحتمال أن يكون السبب مما يستحيى من ذكره كالامتناع من التمكين، بل يترك ذلك إليه وإلى مراقبته لمولاه إلا إن احتاج الأمر إلى جريان الأحكام والرفع إلى الحكام فتبين الأمور (رواه أبو داود وغيره) فرواه الإمام أحمد، والحديث صحيح كما صرّح به ابن حجر الهيتمي في كتابه (تنبيه الأخيار).
