Question

Is this authentic?

Answer

I have not come across this narration in any of the earlier sources. This narration appears in books authored by contemporaries.

Translation

A man approached Hasan al Basri (rahimahullah) and said: “I disobey Allah and commit sins. However, Allah still provides for me generously and has showered worldly possessions upon me. I don’t believe that I am deprived in any way.” Hasan (rahimahullah) replied, “Do you offer Tahajjud Salah?” He replied, “No.” He replied, “It is sufficient [deprivation] that Allah has deprived you of intimately conversing with him.”

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
