Question
Is this Hadith reliable?
Ibnul Adra’ says: One night I was in the company of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) when we walked past a man who was reciting Quran aloud [without shouting] in Salah. I said , “O Messenger of Allah! Maybe he did it ostentatiously?” Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) replied ,” Never! he is turning towards Allah” Ibnul ‘Adra’ says, ‘I looked at this person and he was ‘Abdullah Dhul Bijadayn.’
Answer
Imam Ahmad and others have recorded this as part of a longer narration.
(Musnad Ahmad, vol. 4 pg. 337)
Hafiz Haythami (rahimahullah) has declared the narrators of Musnad Ahmad reliable. Hafiz Ibn Hajar Al ‘Asqalani (rahimahullah) has declared the chain of narrators of Musnad Ishaq Ibn Rahuyah as sound (hasan).
