Question

Is this authentic?

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Beware of doing two things that are [causes] for being cursed.” The Sahabah (radiyallahu ‘anhum) asked: ‘What are the two things that cause a person the be cursed?’ Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) replied: ‘Through one relieving himself in the pathways of the people or in places of shade [thereby inconveniencing others].”

Answer

Imam Muslim (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu). The Hadith is therefore authentic.

(٢٦٩) – دثنا يحيى بن أيوب، وقتيبة، وابن حجر، جميعا عن إسماعيل بن جعفر، قال: ابن أيوب، حدثنا إسماعيل، أخبرني العلاء، عن أبيه، عن أبي هريرة، أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: «اتقوا اللعانين» قالوا: وما اللعانان يا رسول الله؟ قال: «الذي يتخلى في طريق الناس، أو في ظلهم».
