Is this narration authentic?

أقلوا الدخول على الأغنياء فإنه قمن أن لا تزدروا نعم الله عز وجل

 

Answer

Imam Hakim (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Shikkhir (radiyallahu ‘anhu). He has declared the Hadith authentic and Hafiz Dhahabi concurs.

Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) has also cited this Hadith under the commentary of a similar Hadith.

The Hadith is further supported by the following Hadith recorded in Sahih Muslim:

“Look to those below you not to those above you because it is fitting that you should not belittle the bounty of Allah”

Translation

Visit the wealthy less frequently for this is more likely that you belittle the bounties of Allah ‘Azza Wa Jalla [upon you].

المستدرك للحاكم: (٤/ ٣١٢)
حدثنا عبد الله بن الشخير، قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: «أقلوا الدخول على الأغنياء فإنه قمن أن لا تزدروا نعم الله عز وجل».
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد ولم يخرجاه.

فتح الباري:
(٦٤٩٠) – وفي معناه ما أخرجه الحاكم من حديث عبد الله بن الشخير رفعه: «أقلوا الدخول على الأغنياء فإنه أحرى أن لا تزدروا نعمة الله».
قال ابن بطال هذا الحديث جامع لمعاني الخير لأن المرء لا يكون بحال تتعلق بالدين من عبادة ربه مجتهدا فيها إلا وجد من هو فوقه فمتى طلبت نفسه اللحاق به استقصر حاله فيكون أبدا في زيادة تقربه من ربه.
