Question

What is the status of this narration?

حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ رَوْحِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ، عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ كَرِيزٍ الْخُزَاعِيِّ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا، كَانَ فِي غَزَاةٍ لَهُ مَعَ أَصْحَابِهِ، فَأَبَقَ غُلَامٌ لَهُ بِفَرَسِهِ، فَلَمَّا أَرَادَ أَصْحَابُهُ أَنْ يَرْتَحِلُوا، تَوَضَّأَ الرَّجُلُ وَصَلّٰى رَكْعَتَيْنِ، وَقَالَ: اللّٰهُمَّ إِنَّكَ تَرَى مَكَانِي وَحَالِي، وَارْتُحَالَ أَصْحَابِي، اللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أُقْسِمُ عَلَيْكَ لَمَا رَدَدْتَ عَلَيَّ فَرَسِي وَغُلَامِي فَالْتَفَتَ فَإِذَا هُوَ بِالْغُلَامِ مَكْتُوفٌ بِشَطَنِ الْفَرَسِ

 

Answer

Imam Ibn Abid Dunya (rahimahullah) has recorded this with a reliable chain.

Translation

Talhah ibn ‘Ubaidillah (a reliable Tabi’i) narrates a man was with his companions in battle. One of his servants fled with his horse. When his companions wanted to leave, the man made wudu and performed two rak’ahs and made du’a:

O Allah, You see my place and condition and the departure of my companions, O Allah I ask You by taking an oath in Your name to return my horse and servant.

He turned around and found the servant standing with his hands tied to the reins of the horse.

Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has recorded the Hadith of Sayyiduna Anas (radiyallahu ‘anhu) in which Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“There are some bondsmen of Allah Ta’ala who are [of] such [a calibre] that when they take oaths on Allah, Allah Ta’ala Himself fulfills their promise.”

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 2806)

مجابو الدعوة لابن أبي الدنيا:
(٥١) – حدثني أبي، عن روح بن عبادة، عن حماد بن سلمة، عن طلحة بن عبيد الله بن كريز الخزاعي: «أن رجلا، كان في غزاة له مع أصحابه، فأبق غلام له بفرسه، فلما أراد أصحابه أن يرتحلوا، توضأ الرجل وصلى ركعتين، وقال: اللهم إنك ترى مكاني وحالي، وارتحال أصحابي، اللهم إني أقسم عليك لما رددت علي فرسي وغلامي فالتفت فإذا هو بالغلام مكتوف بشطن الفرس».

صحيح البخاري:
(٢٨٠٦) – وقال إن أخته وهي تسمى الربيع كسرت ثنية امرأة، فأمر رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بالقصاص، فقال أنس: «يا رسول الله والذي بعثك بالحق لا تكسر ثنيتها، فرضوا بالأرش، وتركوا القصاص، فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: «إن من عباد الله من لو أقسم على الله لأبره».
