Question
Kindly provide the reference and translation of the following narration:
ما منكم أحد إلا سيكلمه ربه ليس بينه وبينه ترجمان، فينظر أيمن منه فلا يرى إلا ما قدم من عمله، وينظر أشأم منه فلا يرى إلا ما قدم، وينظر بين يديه فلا يرى إلا النار تلقاء وجهه، فاتقوا النار ولو بشق تمرة
Answer
Imams Bukhari, Muslim, and others (rahimahumullah) have recorded this narration on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Adi ibn Hatim (radiyallahu ‘anhu).
(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 7512, and Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 1016)
Translation
Sayyiduna ‘Adi ibn Hatim (radiyallahu ‘anhu) has narrated that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said:
‘There isn’t a single one amongst you except that his Rabb will speak to him [directly] without [there being] any interpreter in between. He [i.e. the servant] will look [towards the] right of him only seeing the [good] deeds he has sent forth, and he will look [towards the] left of him, only seeing that which he has sent forth [i.e. his bad deeds]. He will look forward but will only see the fire [of Jahannam] before him. Thus, Fear the fire [be cautious and protect yourselves from it], even if it is by means of [giving] half a date [in charity]!’
