Question

Is this narration reliable?

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Goodness comes to a home where food is consumed [by guests] faster than the blade goes to the hump of the camel”

Answer

Imam Ibn Majah (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration with a weak chain.

(Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 3356, 3357. Refer: Zawaid Ibn Majah, 1105 and 1106)

However, ‘Allamah Munawi (rahimahullah) has quoted ‘Allamah ‘Iraqi (rahimahullah) who states that this Hadith is corroborated. The narration in question is therefore suitable to quote.

(Refer: Faydul Qadir, Hadith: 4150. Also see: Shu’abul Iman, Hadith: 9177, Al Mughni ‘An Hamlil Asfar, Hadith: 3297 and Targhib, vol. 3 pg. 372)

The meat from the hump of the camel was regarded to be one of the best most delicious cuts. Hence, when slaughtering a camel, they would hasten to cut the meat from the hump and eat it before the meat of any other section.

(Faydul Qadir, Hadith: 4149, 4150)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
