Question

What is the virtue of Dhikr (remembrance of Allah Ta’ala)?

 Answer

Among the many virtues of remembering Allah Ta’ala are the following:

1) Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

Allah Ta’ala says:

I am as my servant thinks of me and I am with him when he remembers me. If he remembers me in solitude, I remember him in solitude. If he remembers me in a gathering I remember him in a superior gathering…

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 7405 and Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2675)

2) Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Busr (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that a man once said:

O Rasulullah, ‘The (optional) ‘ibadat have become too much for me, inform me of something that I should rather cling on to’.

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) replied:

‘Your tongue should remain moist with the remembrance of Allah’.

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 3375 and Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 3794. Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has declared this Hadith as sound –hasan-)

3) Sayyiduna Mu’adh ibn Jabal (radiyallahu ‘anhu) says: I asked Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) ‘Which action is the most beloved to Allah’?

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) replied: ‘That you leave this world in such a condition that your tongue is moist with the remembrance of Allah’

(Sahih Ibn Hibban; Al Ihsan, Hadith: 818)

And Allah Ta’ala knows best
