Question

I have heard that Imam Ahmad (rahimahullah) would offer 300 rak’ahs of Salah every day.

What is the source for this?

 

Answer

Imam Abu Nu’aym (rahimahullah) has recorded this statement. ‘Abdullah, the son of Imam Ahmad (rahimahumallah) says, “My father would offer 300 rak’ahs daily. When he became weak due to the torture and lashing he received, he would offer 150 rak’ahs of Salah and he was close to 80 years of age!”

حدثنا سليمان، ثنا عبد الله بن أحمد بن حنبل، قال: «كان أبي يصلي في كل يوم وليلة ثلاثمائة ركعة، فلما مرض من تلك الأسواط أضعفته، فكان يصلي في كل يوم وليلة مائة وخمسين ركعة، وكان قرب الثمانين».

تاريخ الإسلام: (١٠/ ١٠٢١)
وقال عبد الله بن أحمد: «كان أبي يصلي في كل يوم وليلة ثلاثمائة ركعة، فلما مرض من تلك الأسواط أضعفته، فكان يصلي كل يوم وليلة مائة وخمسين ركعة».

وقال عبد الله: «كان أبي يصلي في كل يوم وليلة ثلاثمائة ركعة».
