Question
Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said:
“Whoever says the following ten times, at the end of every Fajr prayer, while his feet are still folded, before speaking:
La ilaha illallahu, wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu, yuhyi wa yumitu, wa huwa ‘ala kulli shayin qadir
(Translation: None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, Alone without partner, to Him belongs all that exists, and to Him is the praise, He gives life and causes death, and He is powerful over all things.)
Ten good deeds shall be written for him, ten sins will be wiped away from him, ten degrees shall be raised up for him, and he shall be in security all that day from every disliked thing, and he shall be in protection from Shaytan, and no sin will meet him or destroy him that day, except for associating partners with Allah.”
My question is:
Does this mean that it is impossible for a person to commit a sin on that day and does this include all major and minor sins?
Answer
This Hadith is recorded in Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 3474 and Musnad Ahmad. Imam Tirmidhi has classified it as authentic (hasan sahih)
The commentators mention that what is meant is that it is impossible for this person to commit such a sin which will doom him to Jahannam forever.
i.e, If one who recited the above du’a does commit a sin, it will not become a cause for his destruction. Rather, he will be forgiven, unless he commits the extreme sin of polytheism (shirk).
