Question
What is the authenticity of this Hadith?
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) ascended the pulpit and he said, “Amin, amin, amin.” It was said, “O Messenger of Allah, you ascended the pulpit and said amin, amin, amin.” He (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “Verily, Jibril came to me and he said: Whoever reaches the month of Ramadan and he is not forgiven, then he will enter Jahannam and Allah will cast him far away, so say amin. I said amin. Whoever sees his parents in their old age, one or both of them, and he does not honor them and he dies, then he will enter Hellfire and Allah will cast him far away, so say amin. I said amin. Whoever has your name mentioned in his presence and he does not send blessings upon you and he dies, then he will enter Hellfire and Allah will cast him far away, so say amin. I said amin.”
Answer
Imam Ibn Hibban (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith and has declared it authentic (sahih).
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) once ascended the pulpit and said amin thrice. It was said, “O Messenger of Allah! When you ascended the pulpit you said ‘Amin, amin, amin.’ Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “Jibril came to me and said, “Whoever reaches the month of Ramadan and is not forgiven, will enter the Fire and Allah will cast him far away, so say amin. I said amin. Whoever sees his parents or one of them and is not dutiful towards them and he passes away, he will enter the Fire and Allah will cast him far away, so say amin. I said amin. Whoever has your name mentioned in his presence and he does not send salutations [durud] upon you and he passes away, he will enter the Fire and Allah will cast him far away, so say amin. I said amin.”
(Sahih Ibn Hibban; Al Ihsan, Hadith: 907)
Imam Ibn Khuzaymah (rahimahullah) has also recorded this Hadith and declared it authentic with slight variation in the wording.
(Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah, Hadith: 1888)
Imam Hakim (rahimahullah) has recorded a similar Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Ka’b ibn ‘Ujrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu). See here
