Question
I am seeking the references for these please. JazakAllah khayran.
1.) Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “For whoever writes Salutation on me in a book, the angels continue to pray for mercy on him for as long as my name remains in that book.”
2.) Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whosoever conveys in writing any facts of knowledge from me, and writes salutation on me, shall continue to receive its reward for as long as that book continues to be read.”
3.) Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever writes salutation on me in a book shall continue to receive reward for as long as my name remains in that book.”
Answer
1) The narration of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) is recorded by Imam Tabarani in his Al-Mu’jamul Kabir, as well as Imams Abush Shaykh & Daylami in their respective works. (See Tadribur Rawi, vol. 2, pg. 19-20)
2) The narration of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (radiyallahu ‘anhu) is recorded by Imam Ibn ‘Adiy in Al-Kamil.
3) The narration of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) is recorded by Imam Isbahani in his “Targhib” (See Tadribur Rawi, vol. 2, pg. 20)
4) There is a version of Sayyidah ‘Aishah (radiyallahu ‘anha) recorded by Imam Abu Nu’aym in Tarikh Isbahan; see Tadribur Rawi, vol. 2, pg. 20.
However, the popular view among the Muhaddithun is that this is actually the statement of Sayyiduna Ja’far As-Sawdiq (rahimahullah) and should rather be attributed to him.
(Targhib, vol. 1, pg. 111, Jila-ul Afham, pg.56. Also see: Al-Qawlul Badi’, pg. 484 )
The writer concurs with this view.
