Sayyidatuna: Ummu Sulaym and Ummu Salamah (radiyallahu ‘anhuma)

Were the two Sahabiyyah Sayyidah Ummu Sulaym and Sayyidah Ummu Salamah (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) one and the same person, or were they two different people? I know that Sayyidah Ummu Sulaym was married to Sayyiduna Abu Talhah and would like to know if Sayyiduna Anas’ mother (radiyallahu ‘anhum) was this same Sahabiyyah.

Please also mention where to find biographies on these two Sahabiyyah?

Sayyidah Ummu Sulaym and Sayyidah Ummu Salamah (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) were indeed two different Sahabiyyahs.

Sayyidah Ummu Sulaym (radiyallahu ‘anha) was the mother of Anas (radiyallahu ‘anhu), and she was also the same Sahabiyyah who later on, after the demise of her first husband, married Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

On the other hand, Sayyidah Hind bint Abi Umayyah, also known as Ummu Salamah (radiyallahu ‘anha), was the wife of Sayyiduna Abu Salamah (radiyallahu ‘anhu). Soon after he had passed away, she remarried and became one of the Azwaj Mutahharat (respected wives of Rasulullah – sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam).

There are many sources that have mentioned biographies on the lives of these eminent Sahabiyyat. Among them are the following:

Al-Isabah vol. 8 pgs. 404-410.

Usdul Ghabah vol. 7 pgs. 329-331 and 333-334.

Siyaru A’alamin Nubala vol. 2 pgs. 201-210 and 304-311.

Suwar min Hayatis Sahabiyyat pgs. 95-123.
