Seven names of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) in the Quran

Question

Is the following narration authentic?

إن الله سماني في القرآن بسبعة أسماء: محمد وأحمد وطه ويس والمزمل والمدثر وعبد الله

Allah Ta’ala has called me seven names in the Quran; Muhammad, Ahmad, Taha, Yasin, Muzzammil, Muddatthir and ‘Abdullah

Answer

This narration has been cited in certain Tafsir books without a chain. Imam Abu Bakr ibnul ‘Arabi (rahimahullah) states that this narration is not authentic (la yasihhu).

(Ahkamul Quran, vol. 4 pg. 19, beginning of Surah Yasin. Also see: Tafsir Qurtubi, Surah Yasin, Verse: 1 and Tahdhibul Asma Wal Lughat, vol. 3 pg. 698/699)

‘Allamah Ibn Qayyim Al Jawziyyah (rahimahullah) states, “As for what the masses say that Yasin and Taha are the names of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), this is not authentic. This does not appear in any authentic or sound narration…”

(Tuhfatul Mawdud, pg. 109/110)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
