Is the Hadith narrator Aban ibn Tariq Al Basri a reliable narrator?
Aban’s ibn Tariq Hadith appears in Sunan Abi Dawud. He has been declared unknown (majhul).
(Tahdhibul Kamal, vol. 2 pg. 13-14, Mizanul I’tidal, vol. 1 pg. 52, number: 9, Taqribut Tahdhib: 139)
However, Shaykh Muhammad ‘Awwamah (hafizahullah) has explained in his footnotes on Al Kashif that Imam Ibn Hibban (rahimahullah) has declared him reliable (thiqah) except when weak narrators report from him.
(Refer: Al Kashif with footnotes of Shaykh Muhammad ‘Awwamah -hafizahullah-: 107 and At Thiqat of Imam Ibn Hibban, vol. 6 pg. 67)
