Question
What is the status of the narrator ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Uthman ibn Jabalah?
Answer
Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) has mentioned Abu ‘Abdir Rahman, ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Uthman ibn Jabalah Al-‘Ataki Al-Marwazi, also known as ‘Abdan (rahimahullah), to be a very credible Hafiz of Hadith (thiqatun hafizun) that passed away in the year 221 A.H.
‘Abdan (rahimahullah) was also one of the teachers of Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) from which he [i.e., Imam Bukhari] directly narrated many Hadiths in his Sahih.
‘Abdan’s (rahimahullah) Hadiths would therefore be graded authentic (Sahih), unless proven otherwise.
