Question
What is status of following hadith? And can it be quoted?
“When Allah will admit the believers into Jahannam due to any of their sins, then Allah will give death to them, and when Allah wants to extract them from Jahannam, then Allah will punish them at that moment.”
Kanzul Ummal, Hadith: 240
Answer
This Hadith is recorded by Imam Daylami (rahimahullah) on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu’anhu)
(Al-Firdaws, Hadith: 983)
The following similar Hadith is recorded in Sahih Muslim, hadith: 458:
Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri (radiyallahu’anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said:
‘…Those people [believers] who went to the fire for their sins, will be put to death [sleep] therein. When they will be completely burn’t, permission will be granted for intercession [on their behalf]. They will then be brought in groups to the rivers of Jannah…’
The Hadith in your question is suitable to quote, although the Sahih Muslim version would be a better option.
Moral
These Hadiths demonstrate the extreme mercy of Allah Ta’ala upon the believers, even when they are in Jahannam!
The believers will not feel any punishment for the duration in which they are ‘put to sleep/death’ in Jahannam.
(Sharhun Nawawi, Hadith: 458)
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
