Question

Please provide a reference and Arabic text.

Al Fudayl said: “The most favourable deed is that which is concealed, this prevents it from being interfered with by Shaytan and kept away from hypocrisy.”

Answer

Imams Abu Bakr ibn Abid Dunya and Bayhaqi (rahimahumallah) have recorded this statement of Fudayl ibn ‘Iyad (rahimahullah).

Fudayl ibn ‘Iyad (rahimahullah) said: “The best deeds are those done secretly. They are the most protected from [the influence] of Shaytan and are the furthest away from ostentation.”

(Al Ikhlasu wan Niyyah: 30 and Shu’abul Iman: 6495)
