The virtue of farming and planting

Question

Is this Hadith authentic?

Answer

Imam Muslim (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith. It is therefore authentic.

Sayyiduna Jabir (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) once entered upon the date orchard of Ummu Mubasshir Al Ansariyyah (radiyallahu ‘anha)  and asked, “Who planted these date palms? Was it a Muslim or a Disbeliever?” She replied, “A Muslim.” Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Any Muslim who plants [a tree] or grows [vegetation] will receive the reward of charity for every human or animal or anything else that eats from that plantation.”

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 1552)
