Question

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said regarding udhiyah: “It is the sunnah of your father Ibrahim.” (Tirmidhi)

Is this reference correct?

Answer

I have not come across these words in Sunan Tirmidhi.

Imam Ibn Majah (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith.

Sayyiduna Zayd ibn Arqam (radiyallahu ‘anhu) relates that the Sahabah (radiyallahu ‘anhum) asked: “O Messenger of Allah! What is Udhiyah?” He replied, “It is the Sunnah of your father Ibrahim (‘alayhis salam)…”

(Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 3127)
