Question
Kindly confirm the source of the narration because of which Sayyiduna Usamah ibn Zayd (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) was known as ‘the beloved of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and the son of the beloved’
Answer
Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim (rahimahumallah) have recorded the following narration:
Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports, “Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) sent an expedition and put Usamah ibn Zayd (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) in command of it. Some objected to him being in command so Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, ‘If you object to him being in command, you also objected to his father [Zayd ibn Harithah radiyallahu ‘anhu] being in command before. By Allah, he [Zayd radiyallahu ‘anhu] was worthy of leadership and he was one of the most beloved of people to me, and [Usamah radiyallahu ‘anhu] is one of the most beloved of people to me after him”
(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 3730 and Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2426)
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
