Question

My question is about this Hadith found in Mustadrak Hakim:

“…He who performs wudu and recites the following du’a, it will be recorded on a scroll and then sealed with a seal and it will not be broken till the day of Qiyamah:

Subhanakallahumma wa bihamdika la ilaha illa anta astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayh.

My question is, what is the authenticity of this Hadith and more relevantly, what does the latter part of this Hadith mean? What does the “seal” mean and what is the reward of this Hadith specifically as I cannot seem to understand how having an action written on a scroll and sealed up is any more meritorious than ordinary circumstances such as the angels writing the deed on their scrolls.

Answer

This means that the reward for this deed will remain untouched/unspoiled/un-cancelled till the day of Qiyamah.

(Tuhfatudh Dhakirin, Hadith: 144)

Other deeds that one does, can be cancelled due to the person committing a sin even after being written by the angels in their scrolls.

However, this particular deed will not be affected by such.
