Question

Did Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) advise Sayyiduna Mu’adh ibn Jabal (radiyallahu ‘anhu) regarding good character before sending him to Yemen?

Answer

Imam Malik (rahimahullah) reports that Sayyiduna Mu’adh ibn Jabal (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said:

“The last advice given to me by Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) when I put my foot in the stirrup was that he said, ‘Make your character excellent for the people, O Mu’adh ibn Jabal”

(Muwatta Imam Malik, Hadith: 2626. Also see Awjazul Masalik, vol. 16, pg. 55, Hadith: 1609)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
