Question

Can you share authentic narrations that confirm the virtues of drinking Zam Zam water?

 

Answer

1. Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“It is indeed blessed (mubarak). It [also] serves as food for the hungry.”

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 6309)

2. Sayyiduna Jabir (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“The water of zam zam is [suitable] for whatever purpose it is drank for.”

(Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 3062 and Musnad Ahmad, vol. 3, pg. 357)

This Hadith is reported by several Sahabah (radiyallahu ‘anhum) and has been declared reliable by several Muhaddithun. Among them are Imam Ibn ‘Uyaynah, Hafiz Ibn Hajar and ‘Allamah Mundhiri (rahimahumullah)

Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) has s dedicated booklet -which is published- discussing the references and grading of this Hadith.

3. Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“The best water on earth is zam zam. It is food for the hungry and cure for the sick…”

(Al-Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 11167)

‘Allamahs Mundhiri and Haythami (rahimahumallah) have stated all the narrators as reliable (thiqat). This Hadith has also been declared authentic (sahih) by Imam Ibn Hibban.
