Question

Kindly inform as to which is the correct translation to the following Hadith –

“beads of a rosary” or “pieces of a necklace”.

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “…signs following one another like the pieces of a necklace falling one after the other, when its string is cut.” or is it: “…like beads of a rosary falling one after the other when its string is cut.”?

JazakAllah khayran

Answer

The word used in the Hadith of Sunan Tirmidhi, (Hadith: 2211) is: “nizam” (نظام) which is explained to mean a necklace.

(An-Nihayah, vol. 2, pg. 763)

An accurate translation of that part of the Hadith would be:

“…like a necklace whose string is cut”

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
