Question

Besides reciting Surah Ikhlas and Surah Kafirun in the two rak’ahs Sunnah of Fajr, is there any other recital reported in the Hadiths?

 

Answer

Imam Muslim (rahimahullah) has recorded the following narration in his Sahih.

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would recite in the first rak’ah of the Sunnah of Fajr; {قولوا آمنا بالله وما أنزل إلينا} (Surah Baqarah, Verse: 136) and in the second rak’ah {تعالوا إلى كلمة سواء بيننا وبينكم} (Surah Al ‘Imran, Verse: 64).

The complete Ayah for the first rak’ah is as follows:

قُولُوا آمَنَّا بِاللَّهِ وَمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْنَا وَمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَالْأَسْبَاطِ وَمَا أُوتِيَ مُوسَى وَعِيسَى وَمَا أُوتِيَ النَّبِيُّونَ مِنْ رَبِّهِمْ لَا نُفَرِّقُ بَيْنَ أَحَدٍ مِنْهُمْ وَنَحْنُ لَهُ مُسْلِمُونَ

The complete Ayah for the second rak’ah is as follows:

قُلْ يَاأَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ تَعَالَوْا إِلَى كَلِمَةٍ سَوَاءٍ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمْ أَلَّا نَعْبُدَ إِلَّا اللَّهَ وَلَا نُشْرِكَ بِهِ شَيْئًا وَلَا يَتَّخِذَ بَعْضُنَا بَعْضًا أَرْبَابًا مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ فَإِنْ تَوَلَّوْا فَقُولُوا اشْهَدُوا بِأَنَّا مُسْلِمُونَ
