Question
When Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas’s (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) father passed away, many people came to offer condolences to him, and among them an old man came and did it so well that Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) was greatly comforted. That person said, “O, ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas, your father has passed away; tell me, are you better for your father, or is Allah better for him? Indeed you are grieved, but the rewards which you will attain on having patience on this calamity are in fact greater: you will get Allah, so is this great wealth not better for you, O Ibn ‘Abbas? This means that you are crying for your father who has gone to his Rabb. That Rabb who is merciful and much better than you for your father. So if you have patience on his separation then you get Allah, because Allah is with those who exercise Sabr. This life is a short one, then all will gather in the hereafter.”
Is this narration authentic?

I have not come across this narration in any primary source.
The incident has been cited without a chain in some works, such as Qutul Qulub of Imam Abu Talib Makki and Ihya ‘Ulumid din of Imam Ghazali (rahimahumallah). The words mentioned in the question appear to be a paraphrase of this incident.

Imam Abu Talib Makki mentions the incident as follows:
“It has been related to me that when ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhu) passed away, his son ‘Abdullah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) sat to receive condolences (ta’ziyah). People came in groups to console him. Among those who came was a Bedouin, who recited the following couplets:
اصبر نكن بك صابرين فإنما … صبر الرعية بعد صبر الراس
خير من العباس أجرك بعده … والله خير منك للعباس
‘Be patient, so that we too may remain patient through your patience, for the patience of the followers follows the patience of their leader.
Better for you than ‘Abbas is the reward you will receive after his passing, and Allah is better for ‘Abbas than you are.’
Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) then said: ‘No one consoled me as well as the Bedouin did,’ and he appreciated these words.'”
Note: Some sources mention similar incidents containing these lines of poetry concerning other individuals named ‘Abbas, rather than Sayyiduna ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

وحدثت أن العباس رضي الله عنه لما توفي قعد ابنه عبد الله رضي الله عنه للتعزية فدخل الناس أفواجا يعزونه فكان فيمن دخل أعرابي فأنشده:
اصبر نكن بك صابرين فإنما … صبر الرعية بعد صبر الراس
خير من العباس أجرك بعده … والله خير منك للعباس
فقال ابن عباس: ماعزاني أحد تعزية الأعرابي واستحسن ذلك.
إحياء علوم الدين: (٤٣١/٧)
وحكي أن أعرابيا عزى ابن عباس على أبيه رضي الله عنهما فقال:
اصبر نكن بك صابرين فإنما … صبر الرعية بعد صبر الراس
خير من العباس أجرك بعده … والله خير منك للعباس
فقال ابن عباس ما عزاني أحد أحسن من تعزيته.
التذكرة الحمدونية: (٢٤٧/٤)
(٥٩٩) – لما مات العباس بن المأمون جزع عليه المعتصم جزعا شديدا وامتنع من الطعام، وأمر أن لا يحجب عنه أحد للتعزية. فدخل أعرابي في غمار الناس فأنشده: [من الكامل]
اصبر نكن لك تابعين وإنما … صبر الجميع بحسن صبر الراس
خير من العباس أجرك بعده … والله خير منك للعباس
فتسلى ودعا بالطعام.
كذا وجدت الخبر وأظنه سهوا، فإن العباس مات في حبس المعتصم، فكيف يجزع عليه هذا الجزع وهو كان المتهم بقتله، وخبره حيث أراد الفتك بالمعتصم ومواطأة عجيف عليه مشهور، وأظنه العباس بن الفضل بن الربيع، والمعزى به أبوه.
وفيات الأعيان: (٤٣/٤)
وحكى الجهشياري أن الفضل بن سهل أصيب بابن له يقال له العباس، فجزع عليه جزعا شديدا، فدخل عليه إبراهيم بن موسى بن جعفر العلوي وأنشده:
خير من العباس أجرك بعده … والله خير منك للعباس
فقال: صدقت، ووصله وتعزى له.
