Question

Is this Hadith authentic?
Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever said “La ila ha illallahu wahdahu la shari ka lahu lahul mulku wa lahu hamdu yuhyi wa yumitu wa huwa hayyun la ya mutu bi yadihil khayru wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay in qadir” four hundred times before the ‘Eid prayer…”

Answer

This narration is cited in a non-primary Hadith source without a chain of narrators.

Sayyiduna Anas (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever recites the following four hundred times on both ‘Eids, before proceeding for the ‘Eid Salah, Allah will grant him four hundred hurs and he will receive the reward of freeing four hundred slaves. Allah Ta’ala will appoint angels to build towns and plant trees for him on the Day of Qiyamah.”

(Nuzhatul Majalis, pg. 212)

I could not locate a chain of narrators for this Hadith and can therefore not verify the authenticity. One should be cautious and abstain from quoting a Hadith (like the one in question) when the Hadith is untraceable in any original Hadith source until its authenticity can be verified.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
