Question

What is the authenticity and source of this narration? Please provide the Arabic text of the du’a.

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said that if you would recite this invocation three times in the evening, you will be protected from the evil of Shaytan, foreteller and magician.

Amsayna wa amsal mulku lillahi wal hamdu kulluhu lillah. A’udhu billahil ladhi yumsikus sama-a an taqa’a ‘ala ardi illa bi idhnihi min sharri ma khalaqa wa dhara-a wa min sharrish Shaytani wa shirkihi/sharakihi

Answer

Imam Ibnus Sunni (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration.

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) told ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr ibnul ‘As that if he recited the following du’a thrice in the evening, it will serve as a protection against Shaytan, fortunetellers and magicians till the next morning. If read in the morning it will serve as a means of protection till the evening:

Amsayna wa amsal mulku lillahi wal hamdu kulluhu lillah. A’udhu billahil ladhi yumsikus sama-a an taqa’a ‘ala ardi illa bi idhnihi min sharri ma khalaqa wa dhara-a wa min sharrish Shaytani wa shirkihi/sharakihi

Translation: We and the entire creation of Allah Ta’ala spend the evening/[morning] for Allah. All praise belongs to Allah. I seek the protection of Allah the Being who prevents the sky from collapsing on earth except with His command from the evil of all that He has created and brought into existence and from the evil of Shaytan and his inviting to polytheism/from the evil of Shaytan and his traps/snares.

(‘Amalul Yawmi wal Laylah, Hadith: 67)

The chain is weak. However, the Hadith is corroborated and is suitable for practice. Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) has recorded a similar narration. See here

Note: When reciting the du’a in the morning, you should recite أصبحنا وأصبح الملك (asbahna wa asbahal mulk) instead of أمسينا وأمسى الملك (amsayna wa amsal mulk)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
