Question

Is it true that it is narrated in a Hadith something to the effect that when one gives charity on behalf of a deceased person, Jibril (‘alayhis salam) together with 70 000 angels present it to the deceased in the form of gifts of the Hereafter?

Answer

I have not come across this narration in any authentic Hadith collection. A similar Hadith appears in Shi’i sources.

The narration should not be quoted until it can be sourced and then verified. There are other narrations that prove the actual validity of isal-thawab. See here and here.

ورام ابن أبي فراس في كتابه قال قال عليه السلام: «إذا تصدق الرجل بنية الميت، امر الله جبرئيل عليه السلام ان يحمل إلى قبره سبعين الف ملك، في يد كل ملك طبق، فيحملون إلى قبره، ويقولون السلام عليك، يا ولي الله، هذه هدية فلان بن فلان، إليك فيتلألأ قبره وأعطاه الله الف مدينة في الجنة، وزوجه الف حوراء، وألبسه الف حلة، وقضى له الف حاجة».
