Question
Is there any Hadith like this?
“A Sahabi who passes away in a land will be raised as a guide and light for its people.”
Answer
Yes. Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Buraydah (radiyallahu ‘anhu), who reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
“Any Companion of mine who passes away in a land will be raised as a leader and a light for its people on the Day of Qiyamah.”
(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 3865)
Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has stated that the mursal version is more correct. The Hadith is suitable to quote.
‘Allamah Munawi (rahimahullah) explains that the words “a leader and a light” describe how the people of that land will benefit from the Sahabi. He will lead them towards Jannah, with his light going before them so that they may be guided by it.
(Faydul Qadir, Hadith: 7994)
And Allah Ta’ala knows best.
